Top 5 finish at Husets!

Top 5 finish at Husets!

8/23/2011

Mike Nichols and the Nichols Motorsports team had a great weekend, as the NMS Fastlane car wash, Butlerbuilt, VRP shocks, Schaeffer racing oil, Hwy 20 repair, Cliffords cycle PMP chassis made their first ever start at Husets speedway in Brandon, SD. The micro-sprints were the undercard for the World of Outlaw sprint cars, and Mike used the big-stage to show an impressive run to some of his Outlaw buddies. Donny Schatz, Paul Mcmahan and "uncle" Scuba-Steve Swenson have become good friends of Mike, and their presence was a great help for Mike, as they stopped by often during the night to offer up advice and driving tips to our young driver. Mike's night started out a bit tough, as he drew a very high number and started 11th in his 12 car heat race. Knowing a top 5 finish would give him a shot of starting up front in the feature, Mike didnt dissapoint as he nailed the start of the 6 lap heat race, getting by 2 cars on the opening lap. A mid-race caution would help, as Mike had moved...more

NMS back at Nobles County Speedway

8/7/2011

NMS headed back to Nobles County Speedway on Sunday, August 7th. It was good to be back at the same track for the second time this year. We picked up an extra crew member along the way, Lonnie Nichols (Mike's uncle). It was great to have him with in the pits. Since Tommy was not along for the trip, Lon picked up Chief mud scrapper and did a swell job. Mike started position 3, fell back to fourth and fought back to finish 3rd. He was scheduled to start position 3 for the feature. At the start of the feature, he felt his brakes were not operating correctly, so started in the back of the field. He took two laps and pulled in. It was great to be back at Nobles County Speedway and we are truly enjoying running with the Minniakota Sprint Series. Our next race will be Saturday, August 20th at Huset's Speedway. Huset's was Mike's first racetrack and spent many Sunday nights at this track. It will be real exciting to see Mike turn his first laps. The microsprints will be the support...more

NMS heads to Worthington, MN for micro races

7/30/2011

NMS headed to Worthington, MN for the Miniakota races for the first time this year. We were excited to finally hit the Nobles County Speedway for Mike's debut. Mike started position 8 in his heat race. He came out in fourth place which put him in the special Trophy Dash for the top four racers from two heats. Mike started pole position and went on to win the race by half a lap. However, this win, without a point average established put him in 8th starting position in a field of 15 sprints. Mike went on to finish 6th in his feature race. It was an exciting evening of racing. We look forward to continuing our month of August with the Miniakota Micro Sprints series. Our next race will be at Nobles County Speedway on Sunday, August 7th.

NMS traveled to Aberdeen, SD on Saturday, July 30th for go kart races. Tommy "Tank" Nichols made his first debut at Aberdeen. Tommy ran in the Jr 1 Heavy class along with six other drivers. Tommy spent hot laps, heat races learning the track. He had a few spins in turn four. By the time the second feature came around, Tommy had learned what he needed to do with the kart in order to not spin out. He came from the back to finish second place. Congratulations to Crist Pittenger for his first place finish. Tommy really enjoyed the track and looks forward to returning soon.

Michael attended his last go kart race this past week attending the IKF Grand Nationals at University Plains Speedway. NMS encountered a lot of grief for our last week racing. We would like to congratulate Kaleb Johnson, Dillion LaCroix and Jarad Ballhagen for their Duffy wins in JR 2 this year. We would also like to congratulate Tom Spanel on his 15th Duffy win riding an Ultramax! We have enjoyed the Kart world with Michael these past 2 1/2 years and have made many friendships. We will continue to see you on the circuit as Tommy continues his career. We would like to thank Russell, Carrie and Trevor Hunt for their many hours spent with us. We would also like to thank Ultramax, TRR and Elite Signs and Graphics. We would also like to thank our family for the many miles driven and hours spent cheering Michael on. It has really been a great ride.

NMS headed to University Plains Speedway in Brookings, SD on July 9th. Tommy the Tank Nichols raced his first Jr 1 Flathead features in a double show. Crew Mom, Dad and Mike focused in on Tom only that day. Tom finished third in both heats for the first show. He has a great finish of third in the first feature. For the second show, Tom finished once again third in both of his heats. He was able to better his finishing spot to SECOND for the last feature. We are proud of Tommy and his accomplishments so far this year. He has been limited at the track due to rain and rescheduling. Look for Tom to continue be back on the track in the next few weeks.
